Of course,it hardly makes sense why one would leave ‘Africa’ to do African Studies in Europe/North America, but that’s the twin tragedy of having a lot of materials on Africa/Africans stored in the West/Global North and Eurocentric disciplines still taught in African universities.

And,as @keguro_ would say,and of course I am paraphrasing, citing more Africans may not necessarily recenter Africa in scholarship because most of it,even in African universities,is still centered on Eurocentrism-with sociology starting with the trinity of Marx,Durkheim and Weber.

For sure, there is a geographical advantage of being located physically in ‘Africa’ as far as scholarship is concerned even if,intellectually,Eurocentrism still indirectly rules in African Universities, and that’s the fact that one always faces African realities in their own right.

So,whether located in Euro-America or not,the bottom line for any scholar of Africa or African Studies is;spend a substantial amount of time on the ground in the African continent—virtually and physically—and engage with African realities in their own right, that’s decolonization.

Last but arguably not least,I am tweeting as someone who has spent more time in the African continent physically than in Europe/North America during my entire time of doing African Studies, something I intend to continue—and someone who also lives in ‘Africa’ virtually 24/7/365🌍.

Sigh, not everything is about gender and “colorism”. Sometimes it’s just viewers reacting. If you take everything other than applauses as hate, you’re no different from some of our politicians. It’s a public work. Fans receive it, you gauge their reaction, move forward.

📢 TODAY'S THOUGHT History shows that "there's no better way to justify relations founded on violence... than by reframing them in the language of debt... it immediately makes it seem that it's the victim who's doing something wrong. Mafiosi understand this." -David Graeber

What’s wrong with South Africa (and Africa)? Hosting an engaging guest lecturer is one of the pleasures of teaching. Today at HKS Dr. ⁦@thabileoka⁩ provided thoughtful answers to that big question, with compelling and feasible policy recommendations. Is anyone listening?...

These debut novelists range in age from their early 20s to late middle aged. Has the industry shifted in this regard? I think so. The future belongs to everyone, not just the young. Pleased to see 2 Hamish Hamilton authors included: @AyaRoots @emiliepine theguardian.com/books/2022/j…
